The Holiday Lighting Contest
As the weather turns a bit cooler, you may want to begin planning to participate in one of our neighborhood’s annual events. Since 2003, the GDCA has helped to sponsor the Holiday Lighting Contest. A similar event was held in the Garden District during the 1960s.
Holiday lighting includes lights as well as other holiday decorations for your yard and home. There are six categories of decorations in the Holiday Lighting Contest.
The categories are:
- Best Lighting
- Most Original
- Best Children’s
- Most Religious
- Best Door
- Judge's Choice
Look for updates on this event in the GDCA newsletter or website. In December look for signs in our neighborhood indicating the specific date of the event. Then put some extra sparkle in the Garden District by participating!
Winners are contacted the evening of the event, after the judges’ final decisions are made. Prizes are donated by area merchants who appreciate and support our neighborhood. Winners and merchants are recognized on the website and in the next newsletter.
Contact: Cindy Elliott ( 343-6900 or celliott@selu.edu ) for more details or if you know of a local business that would like to donate a prize for the event
