Below you will find a list of neighborly recommendations offered by residents of the Garden District. We are not responsible for the validity of these recommendations. Roofing
- Big Jim Construction: Last roofer we used was Big Jim Construction. They were great, reasonable, thorough, cleaned the gutters. The address is 1810/1812 Olive St., if you want to look. -Frances & Frank
- Cajun Roofing: Hey we've used Cajun Roofing a couple of times with good results. The owner - Rene Alverez - was recommended to me by a friend.
- Calvin George: Margaret Bach says: Two roofers that several agents in my office use--dependable and not the most expensive in town--are Frank Catanzaro & Calvin George. They do good work and very fair prices. Alternate Phone: 775-5912 (cell).
- Cribbs: I had good luck with Cribbs. Their number is in the book. Last summer they re-did our valleys with metal flashing, so they will do smaller jobs. I really was very happy with their work and their service. Also recommended by Chip Coulter on Park: "They did a wonderful job replacing all of the shingles on our roof about two years ago, and were at our home just two days after Gustav to make temporary repairs. - Dewey Boudreaux of Roof Doctors, Inc.: Dewey fixed a small part of the roof that was leaking and fixed it right, and for a fraction of the cost that other roofers estimated. He charged $525 to just "fix" the leak (where my flat roof was meeting up with the regular roof) as opposed to others who said the only way to fix it was to reroof the whole thing for $2500!! Alternate phone: 268-3188. Also recommended by Arlyn Edmonson: DEWEY BOUDREAUX is a great roofer...specializes in old houses too. He was AWESOME and one of the only people I could find to work on asbestos shingles. He actually just got up on my roof, fixed the problem right then and said "That should probably hold you for awhile, but if you want me to come back and do it the "right" way and replace those shingles, I can." I told him to come back and he only charged me $200....others would have charged ~$2000.

- JD Busby: Greta: I'd recommend JD Busby at 664-9506 Mary: J.D. Busby (664-9506) has been wonderful for us. When the lightning struck and later when the tree fell on the roof he was there immediately. He reroofed the house a year and a half ago. Even if you have a small repair he'll come right away. If you just want his worker to brush the leaves off the roof he'll come. He does an excellent job. The previous roofer put two nails for each single. He puts four. Gary Spurlock uses him for the houses he builds. I went to the shingle supply store and looked at their color samples. When I narrowed it down to the couple of colors or however many it was that I thought I wanted they gave me addresses where I could see them on the roof to see if that was what I really wanted. I tried to get it as light as possible for the reflective quality (cooler). That was very helpful. I drove around town, mostly this end of town, and looked at roofs. J.D. can give you the name of the shingle store or if you go with someone else I probably have the receipt on file. I recommended J.D. to a co-worker. She was so happy that she recommended him to all her neighbors. He got so many jobs from her that he sent her a check! Good luck. It is expensive. Supplies went way up after the hurricanes.
- Spears Roofing: RECOMMEND YOU NOT USE! We were so thoroughly unhappy with many aspects of Spears Roofing Service - we encourage you to investigate the BBB if you are charmed by these guys and realize that most other roofers do not have this many complaints.
